Voto Latino Honors NBC News’ José Díaz-Balart with the 2025 “Our Voices” Legacy in Media Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Voto Latino Foundation, the leading civic engagement organization focused on informing and empowering a new generation of Latino voters, is proud to announce NBC News and Noticias Telemundo’s José Díaz-Balart will receive the 2025 Our Voices Legacy in Media Award.

A forerunner in bilingual journalism, Díaz-Balart has spent decades at the helm of both English and Spanish-language news. Emmy, Peabody and Alfred Dupont award winner José Díaz-Balart is anchor of “NBC Nightly News Saturday” and “Noticias Telemundo.” His work has consistently broken barriers and redefined what inclusive, impactful media can look like in America.

“José Díaz-Balart has not only informed millions, but he has inspired generations,” said María Teresa Kumar, President and Co-Founder of the Voto Latino Foundation. “As a leader, he didn’t just break barriers—he has built bridges, creating space for new voices and ensuring that Latinos are not only seen and heard, but respected in the media landscape. José’s legacy is one of courage, excellence, and deep cultural pride, and it is an immense honor for Voto Latino to recognize his profound impact on the fabric of American storytelling.”

Díaz-Balart has made history as the first U.S. journalist to anchor English and Spanish-language newscasts on two networks simultaneously. Díaz-Balart began his career in 1983 and has become one of the most respected voices in journalism. He has witnessed and reported historic events for prestigious news media outlets around the world as well as interviews with hundreds of thought leaders among them all U.S. Presidents since Ronald Reagan.

For nearly two decades, Voto Latino has fought to ensure that Latino voices are being heard. Not only at the ballot box, but we also know how vital it is for diverse voices to be heard in newsrooms, on air, and behind the scenes. José Díaz-Balart will be celebrated at the Voto Latino Foundation’s annual Our Voices reception on April 25, 2025, in Washington, D.C.
