Voto Latino Honors Carlos Eduardo Espina with the 2026 “Our Voices” Campeón Award
Washington, D.C. — Today, the Voto Latino Foundation, the leading civic engagement organization focused on informing and empowering a new generation of Latino voters, is proud to announce that Carlos Eduardo Espina will receive the 2026 Campeón Award.

Carlos Eduardo Espina has transformed social media into a vital civic educational hub, serving as a primary source of bilingual information for over 23 million followers. Often described as a “one-man newsroom,” Carlos’ content demystifies complex immigration policies, breaks down legislative changes, and provides real-time updates on issues affecting the Latino community. A cornerstone of his digital work is his role as a “digital navigator” who democratizes legal literacy for underserved communities.
Espina frequently utilizes his platforms to host instructional sessions that guide residents through the naturalization process, explaining the nuances of federal programs and providing clear summaries of executive orders. Beyond informing, Carlos actively fact-checks viral rumors and debunked claims that often target vulnerable populations, ensuring his audience has a reliable, verified space to turn to when policies shift abruptly. His ability to translate dense legal and policy jargon into accessible Spanish has made him a trusted fixture in the daily media diet of millions of immigrant and Latino families.
In his latest work, Carlos has expanded his storytelling into long-form media, notably with the 2026 release of his documentary Estados Detenidos, which provides an intimate look at the human impact of immigration enforcement on families. He also continues to scale “The Espina Project,” which now serves as the operational backbone for his Houston community center.
“Carlos Eduardo Espina is the embodiment of the Latino superpower: a generation that is informed, engaged, and unapologetic about its place in our democracy,” said Beatriz Lopez, Executive Director of Voto Latino. “We know that Latinos are twice as likely as the general public to prefer social media for their news, and Carlos has met that need by transforming these platforms into a vital, trusted newsroom. By closing the information gap for the millions of families who rely on social media to remain informed, he is protecting our community from misinformation and providing them with the tools to navigate our systems with dignity and power. We are honored to present him with the 2026 Campeón Award for ensuring that in this digital age, no Latino is left behind in the dark.”
For nearly two decades, Voto Latino has fought to ensure that diverse voices are heard. Not only at the ballot box, but in newsrooms, on air, and behind the scenes. Carlos Eduardo Espina will be celebrated at the Voto Latino Foundation’s annual Our Voices reception on April 24, 2026, in Washington, D.C.
