Gun Violence Prevention

Our shameful lack of gun laws means real violence and harm to our community.

Did you know that four out of every 10 Latinxs know someone who has been shot? That is ridiculous. Latinxs should feel safe everywhere: at school, at Wal-Mart, in church, at the movies, in their neighborhoods, and in their homes.

Instead, today’s shameful lack of gun laws means real violence and harm to our community. There are no federal laws banning semi-automatic assault weapons, military-style .50 caliber rifles, handguns, or large-capacity magazines. That means that most people over the age of 18 can buy a gun with only a simple background check– and sometimes not even that! There are too many loopholes even in states with gun safety laws in place. For the safety of our communities, we must pass and implement commonsense gun safety laws.

Gun safety laws are decided by state legislatures and members of Congress who are constantly being lobbied by gun manufacturers and the NRA. And the laws don’t change because the NRA and gun manufacturers are organized. The best way to fight back? Empower leaders to prevent gun violence!
