Voto Latino Applauds Introduction of U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021

Pro-jobs Act would present opportunity for productive, tax-paying contributors to American society to earn citizenship

Washington, DC – Today, President Joe Biden’s pledge to provide hardworking residents of the United States and others an opportunity for U.S. citizenship moved forward in the form of the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021, introduced in both Congressional chambers by Sen. Bob Menendez and Rep. Linda Sánchez.

“After four years of un-American bigotry and brutalization, this promising bill provides the United States with the opportunity to look ahead and recognize the massive contributions that immigrants make to our American workplace, economy and society,” said María Teresa Kumar, president and CEO of Voto Latino. “The bill would create safe ways for hardworking people seeking a better tomorrow to first apply for legal status from their home country, increase assistance to Central American countries that work to improve conditions at home so people no longer feel compelled to leave, strengthen the legal arsenal that can be unleashed against craven criminals trying to smuggle people and drugs into our country and much more.

“The American people need a comprehensive bill passed as soon as possible, and we will work hard to get one passed this Congress.”

The U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 would also expand the advanced technologies used to sniff out contraband before multinational criminal syndicates are able to move it and would furnish more rescue beacons to protect U.S. border communities and prevent unneeded deaths at the border.
