Voto Latino Foundation Launches El Brief, a New Digital News and Culture Hub for Young Latinos
New social-first platform will meet Gen Z and younger Millennial Latinos where they already are, on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, with news, culture, and civic engagement content told by and for the community
Washington, D.C. — Today, the Voto Latino Foundation launched El Brief, a new cultural hub built to meet young Latinos where they already are: scrolling their social feeds. Designed for Gen Z and younger Millennials, El Brief delivers news, culture, and civic information in a voice that reflects the community it serves—sharp, authentic, and unmistakably ours.
El Brief comes at a critical moment, shaped by years of research Voto Latino has conducted throughout its existence, and most recently a year-long social listening effort focused on this key demographic. El Brief is designed to cut through the noise and build a digital home for our core constituents, especially those who are not following political content or civically engaged. As disinformation campaigns increasingly target Latino communities online, and as young Latino voters continue to be undercounted and under-informed by traditional media, the need for a trusted, culturally fluent source of information has never been greater. With 1 million Latinos turning voting age each year, more than 2 million new voters have joined the eligible population since the 2024 election alone.
To meet this audience, El Brief will feature content across several dynamic formats:
- Explainers: Breaking down the issues that matter most to young Latinos, from the economy and immigration to education, healthcare, and beyond.
- Partner collaborations: Working with creators and organizations across our culture, bringing trusted voices into the conversation.
- Interviews: From man-on-the-street conversations to longer, podcast-style sit-downs that go deeper.
- Short-form storytelling: Exploring the community narratives that don’t always make headlines.
- Trend-based content: Meeting audiences in real time, wherever the conversation is happening.
- Clipping key moments: To extend their reach and keep the most important stories in front of the community longer.
“When we started Voto Latino Foundation, our mission was simple: meet people where they are. For Voto Latino, it’s always meant creating community online—Remember MySpace? We were there. Voto Latino Foundation is a digital native and El Brief adapts to how young people are consuming news. Our community has always found each other through storytelling—around kitchen tables, at family gatherings, and now on our phones,” said María Teresa Kumar, President and Co-Founder of Voto Latino Foundation. “El Brief is the next chapter of that mission, making sure that when young Latinos are scrolling for something real, they find people who look like them, sound like them, and are telling them the truth about what’s happening in their world with information they can apply to their everyday lives.”
“Civic engagement doesn’t start at the ballot box, it starts with feeling informed, seen, and connected to your community long before election day. That’s what El Brief is built for. We’re meeting young Latinos where they already are, not just to get them to vote, but to help them understand their own power in this country every single day. When people feel that power, showing up becomes second nature,” said Rosario Dawson, Voto Latino Foundation Co-Founder and Board Member. “This is also about trust. For too long, our community has been an afterthought in the news cycle, talked about, rarely talked to. El Brief changes that by putting our stories in our own hands, told by us, for us. Trust is more important than ever. We’re not just building an audience, we’re building a community that knows its own strength.”
El Brief is designed to break through young Latinos’ social feeds with fact-based, accessible content, and turn information into action by connecting young Latinos to the civic tools they need to navigate America every day from their pocketbook to the polls and everything in between.
