Voto Latino Honors PBS News’ Amna Nawaz with the 2026 “Our Voices” Truth in Journalism Award

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Voto Latino Foundation, the leading civic engagement organization focused on informing and empowering a new generation of Latino voters, is proud to announce that Amna Nawaz, Co-Anchor of PBS News Hour, will receive the 2026 Truth in Journalism Award.

Amna Nawaz is an Emmy, Cronkite, and Peabody Award-winning journalist whose career has taken her from the frontlines of international conflict to the halls of power in Washington, D.C. As Co-Anchor and Co-Managing Editor of PBS News Hour, she has become one of the most trusted voices in public broadcasting.

Nawaz is widely recognized for her incisive reporting on the complexities of the global migration system. Her work has meticulously documented the journeys of those seeking asylum at the U.S. southern border, the human impact of “zero-tolerance” policies, and the harrowing reality of family separation. Whether leading a primetime documentary or anchoring a breaking news broadcast, she brings the same trademark rigor and insight to every story she tells.

Before joining PBS, Nawaz led major political coverage at ABC News and served as a foreign correspondent and Islamabad Bureau Chief for NBC News, where she reported extensively on the war in Afghanistan and the broader region. Today, she continues to reach audiences across platforms as co-host of the podcast “Settle In with PBS News.”

“What makes Amna Nawaz exceptional is not just the breadth of her reporting, but the depth of her commitment to the people behind the headlines by giving voice to the communities whose stories too often go untold, and bringing moral clarity to the moments that demand it most. Our newsrooms must reflect the country they cover, and Amna’s voice is not just valuable; it is vital. We are proud to honor her with the 2026 Truth in Journalism Award,” said Beatriz Lopez, Executive Director of the Voto Latino Foundation. “Amna Nawaz is the embodiment of what journalism should be—fearless, precise, and deeply human. In an era when the truth is under attack and diverse voices are being pushed out of newsrooms, Amna’s work is a powerful testament to why representation and rigorous reporting are not just ideals, but necessities.”

For nearly two decades, Voto Latino has fought to ensure that diverse voices are heard. Not only at the ballot box, but in newsrooms, on air and behind the scenes. Amna Nawaz will be celebrated at the Voto Latino Foundation’s annual Our Voices reception on April 24, 2026, in Washington, D.C.
